Logo When BMW revealed the R90S in the 1970's, it was a revolution. Superbike power mixed with sensible German engineering. Proving the adage, "everything old is new again" that revolution just happened all over again...

In April, 2008 BMW announced a modern reincarnation of the R90S, the S1000RR Superbike. Aimed squarely at World Superbike competition, this is by far the most potent BMW ever made - 2 or 4 wheels.

S1000Riders.org aims to be the worldwide community for S1000 Riders & Enthusiasts. Leveraging integration with the existing F800 Rider and G450 Rider communities, we aim to be the best independent source of S1000 News, Information, and Discussion.

Half the fun of owning a motorcycle is personalizing it to fit your tastes. Maybe a throatier exhaust is #1 on your list, or how about some protection should your motorcycle fall asleep on it's side, or maybe a set of GP Pattern Rear sets are your cup-of-tea.

Post a reply in this thread to be entered in to win a $50 Gift Certificate to S1000Depot.com. It's good to the end of the year, is transferable, and is valid on anything available in the store.

» Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday - The S1000RR & WSBK @ Miller Motorsports Park, Part 1

You may not realize it, but the last few years have been a renaissance period of BMW Mottorrad. Not so long ago, sleepy airheads and odd thins called 'flying bricks' rulled the roost. Over the last five years however, nearly the entire lineup has been transformed. Two new boxer engines, a new parallel twin, an updated single, and two new inline fours were launched -- and that's just the motors!

Arguably, the most radical departure from BMW of old was the development and introduction of the S1000RR Superbike. This isn't necessarily because it has one of the aforementioned new engines, or due to the fact it's a sporty and BMW traditionally has shied away from the sport bike market. It due to the fact that is was a philosophical change in direction from a company that hasn't had one since the introduction of the K-Bike in the early 80's.

When trying to understand just how big of a change this is, we need to put it into context. Let's take a look at the last BMW entrant into the superbike market, and no, the K1200S was not it.
