I attended another car show yesterday in Burlingame, CA and saw some interesting cars. Lots of photos attached. See how many of these cars you can recognize. I have a funny feeling about that "Nash".

There was a pretty fancy Mclaren at Alice's Restaurant today. Who knew that that the gas tank was located in the roof of the car.

(I ought to receive the "download" award from the forum this evening. )

Exotic but not pretty, the original F1 was sublime.

Last night on the SF TV news there was a report about a group of woman drivers who were driving new Ferrari $port cars from San Francisco to Monterey, and I assume points south. The ladies looked very nice and so did the cars. I hope they made it out of the city before getting into a crash, being carjacked, or having their hubcaps stolen.

So I attended another car show yesterday and saw some unusual and interesting vehicles that I hadn't seen before. Such as a 1947 Diamond T pickup, a 1938 Buick 8 limo that was once owned by Howard Hughes and has a duplicate speedometer in the rear passenger compartment so he could keep an eye on how fast his driver was traveling and the nicest 23-window VW micro-bus that I have ever seen. I'll toss in a couple of photos of the longest stock station wagon that I have ever seen. Photos attached.

Moving on to something more modern: here is what looks like an expensive Porsche that I saw today, complete with an interesting exhaust outlet location and a gold-plated engine. (I assume that is an extra-cost option .) As usual I have no idea what model Porsche it is, but my guess is that it is new since it has no license plate.

No wonder the food prices at Alice's Restaurant keep going up when people that can afford to own (or lease) these things eat there.

Porsche 918 Spyder. A hybrid supercar, concept dating from around 2011. Reportedly only 918 built, none came to Australia as import taxes took the new price to $1.3 M. and it couldn't be legally driven on the roads here anyhow. Pity, I'd swap my 996 for one, any day....

Here are three photos of an old (1960's?) Land Rover that I saw today. Interesting collection of color-coded levers and knobs for the driver to play with.

It looks just a little more modern, but I might be wrong as mine looked older in '63. It was khaki coloured with a rifle holder and I bombed around Germany in it when recceing new workshop locations or trying to find broken down tanks that needed either recovery or major assembly changes (Centurions and a 'new' tank called Chieftain, now obsolete!)

Defo. a '65' or earlier, as the spoked steering wheel gives it away - to those that know !

Nice pics. That turquoise and cream 'vette is definitely not a '53. It's a '56 or '57. My dad bought a new '57 in that livery with a removable hardtop (no cloth top), dual-quad 283 cu in. @ 270 HP, 3-speed, 4.11:1 Positraction rear.

That's one vehicle I've never had any interest in. My brother in law is mad about them. Personally I don't get the whole rugged, shooting, outdoor thing. I'm far too suburban!

Today I saw a fancy Lamborghini convertible (I have no idea what year it is, but the interior looks like it should be in a fighter jet) and a very clean red 1969 Karmann Guia. Photos attached.

(I used to own a pea green 1974 Karmann Guia, that was not nearly as nice as this '69, which came with a package shelf instead of the back seat. But I fixed that by bolting a kitchen chair, with the legs removed, to the shelf to carry around my 4-year old daughter. A year later I bought a 1975 Volvo 144GL, which I guess made a better family car. )

Here is a very nice 1960's Mustang fastback. You don't see these every day.

Tough to shoot through the glass to see the interior, though. Reflections all over the place.

Looks like a'67 replica of the Steve McQueen 'Bullitt' car, right down to the color, bodystyle, transmission, and wheels.

    https://youtu.be/31JgMAHVeg0

The Mustang chassis and suspension had to be reinforced for the movie; the Charger ran the stunt stock.

The last part of the chase scene was filmed on Guadalupe Canyon Parkway, which connects Daly City with the town of Brisbane. The portion east of Radio Road had just been completed at the time and I don't think it was open when the movie was filmed. I the Boulevard at the time ended at Radio Road (the road leading to the radio towers on top of San Bruno Mountain) and during the mid-1960's it was a dead end. We used to race our motorcycles up and down the 4-lane highway, until the eastern half was finally opened to the public. That put an end to that fun.

I've been repeatedly watching 'Le Mans" with Steve McQueen. I will never tire watching this movie.

Here is a new one on me. You never know what you are going to see at Alice's Restaurant, even of a rainy day.

And just to prove that not all Italian supercars are red, I will toss in a couple of photos of a lime green Lamborghini.

I prefer the Ginetta, such a classic shape, although the reinforcing strut to the role bar looks odd!

Here is a study in contrasts, even though there is nothing here that you haven't seen before - except for maybe the brake discs on that Ferrari
Also, I wonder where they place the front license plate on the Ferrari that is required in CA so that toll bridge automated cameras can know who to bill?

Here is a very nice 1960's Ford Falcon Clubman van. I have seen a lot of Falcon "pickups" but this is the first passenger van that I can recall seeing.

This next Sunday is the Horseless Carriage meet in So Cal at the Santa Anita Race Track. Gobs of really old stuff shows up and the dweebs with hot rods try to horn in.
Usually a nice turn out that I've had the pleasure of participating in over the years. BUTT, rain may fall and spoil the whole thing. Just Dang.
It's called the Holiday Motor Excursion if you look it up.
I sold my 1915 Model T touring car so I'se out of the biz as it were.

Classic cars tend to stay home during the winter while the highways are wet and covered with debris. But today I saw this nice little Alfa Romeo.

If you have nothing better to do you can watch this 25 minute-long GM promo movie from the 1930's titled General Motors is Good for the Worker and their role in Capitalism. They really lay it on thick and heavy. Maybe a bit too much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzeXBP1ykB8

Check out the photos of this cool little "art deco" 1936 Stout Scarab mini-van that a friend just sent me. (The vehicle was named for the scarab
beetle, which seems kind of appropriate.) I love it. But it sold for $5,000 during the Great Depression, so it wasn't much of a sales success.

If you enjoy looking at photos of weird "house cars" here is a link to lots of pictures. They certainly don't make them like this anymore:

Love the Stout and the Huntsman, but what a nightmare to restore - those huge compound curved panel areas!

Here is an interesting piece of history about Stout that a friend sent me:

William Stout originally built all metal airplanes, then Henry Ford bought the “Stout Metal Airplane company.” And was “The Ford Tri-Motor”.

As a young kid I got to ride for "a penny a pound" a Ford Tri-motor.

They ran a regular route to the Put in Bay Islands on Lake Erie for decades.

Due to the winter weather, the opportunity to see classic cars has been somewhat limited. So here is your chance to see a boring video of a 1923 lawnmower. I sure am happy that modern mowers are a little more lively than this thing.

Today we have a Ford land-yacht, a red Alfa Romeo and a new Porsche with a wrap that makes it look old and funky.

Nice Alfa. I have serious lust for the new Giulia. Dealer minutes from my house so have found myself in the lot on Sundays...when no sales people are.there! Don't get that wrap on the Porsche either. Ugh.

Today we have an Atom and a Morgan with the nicest black paint job that I have seen on a vehicle in a long time. (The paint was absolutely immaculate with not a swirl, scratch, or blemish. Not even any dust.)
