Dear BMW: You are so close to building the perfect motorcycle, FOR ME. An F800RT (or possibly F800LT) Things to delete from the current GT - TPS, ESA & traction control. Add electronic cruise, adjustable windshield, standard side cases & center stand, and a larger gas tank. You moved in a touring direction with the GT, now take the plunge. Keep a bare bones ST/GT in the lineup for a lower price point. If you do this for me I'll quit whining about the cost of ownership.

+1 re the perfect bike for me. Build an F800RT, and I will definitely buy it.

I've said it before, that is the perfect setup for the F800GTL! 2015?

No manufacturer brings out the perfect machine, even when they have spent billions developing it. If the did, what would they do in the following years to add to the machine specification and keep interest alive.

Bill, in addition to your list, how about stiffer front forks and springs

Agreed, thats an interesting configuration. But I don't think a larger gas tank is that critical. I find its a very good idea for me to get off the bike for a few minutes and stretch every hour whether I "need" to or not. So a gas stop every 3 to 4 hours is not a problem.

No but I would love it when my bike would be capable of a whole week of commuting on one fill-up.

Good point Karim. I want some "cushion" when I don't stop for gas because I'm pretty sure there's another station at the next exit.

So true Pat. If BMW put a 5 gallon tank on the GT, I'd want 6 gallons. And yes on the fork improvements.

Price point? For an 800 I paid 16500 when I got the bike in 2008. Saddle bags and extra 7 year warranty(that didn't account for deer strikes). The GT probably costs more than that and you want price point. I can buy cars with air conditioning and radio that cost less and will be cheaper to maintain and probably last as long if not longer.
How about a huge about face and charge what the bike is really wort, less that 10K euros.
Folks have just gotten used to paying through the nose and the investors in those factories are bankfully grateful.

You've got to quit washing your meds down with Vodka. What's a "wort"? Is it like a yute in My Cousin Vinnie?

How about a BMW S1000 GT. The perfect engine with a heated, comfortable saddle, lots of leg room, an adjustable windshield, top loading panniers, 6 gal. tank, 45 mpg., belt or shaft drive, ESA, traction control, 540 lbs, $13,500, 4 year unlimited mileage warranty. That should do it.

1000 miles a month is simply not enough fun with this bike.

So the job is going to have to go.
