I'm in the (possibly unique) position of having used both these suppliers; Bren Tuning for my 2010 S1000RR and Hilltop Motorcycles for my 2014 HP4, so in the spirit of what forums are about I thought I'd write up my experience to help others.
The two companies take quite different approaches; Bren send you your maps over the internet and you need to purchase some machinery to upload them to your bike, and Hilltop take your bike into their dyno room or you send them your ECU in the post.
With Bren Tuning it took a few trips to my local dyno to get the fueling right. Each time I would go to the dyno, pay for a run, go back home, send Bren the results, they would make some changes and send me a new map, I'd upload the map to the bike, go back to the dyno and pay for another run, and so on... This was expensive and time consuming, but in the end the results were great and the bike performed fabulously.
With Hilltop it was one trip which took about 2 hours - the bike went on their dyno for a run to produce baseline figures, was remapped, then went back on the dyno for fine-tuning and the final power run. As with Bren Tuning the results were great and the bike performed miles better than stock, even though the HP4 has a better (richer) stock map in the first place.
So in terms of cost and convenience it was Hilltop all the way for me, but of course if you live near Bren Tuning then it would be the other way around for sure, although Hilltop's map is self-learning, so it would not require multiple dyno visits to get things running perfectly. Another point this made me think of actually: with Hilltop's map you can make further changes (exhausts, air filters etc.) and the map will adjust to return to optimum running. As far as I am aware nobody else is doing this. I haven't made any exhaust changes to my HP4 since the standard system is good enough and even with the baffle out will still squeeze past a lot of trackday noise restrictions.
