A ride around the lake district.

I had a long day trip on my recently acquired 800GSA. I wanted to get some pics of the Autumn colours.

I headed first up the M6 from Manchester. It was cold but thankfully dry and clear. I spotted this on the way. The truck was from Scotland.

I filled up at the South of Windermere. Every time I fill up it seems the price goes up.

I turned off the coast road and headed for the East side of Coniston water.

Heading through High Nibthwaite village. I had the roads mostly to myself.

My first view of Coniston. It was about this point that Donald Campbell crashed in Bluebird at the south of the Lake.

No idea, somebody left this behind.

A lot of water about and wet leaves.

Pulled up at this jetty for a quick look.

The leaves have sunk to the bottom. The water is crystal clear.

Looking North. The village of Coniston itself is up on the left of the picture.

Rare to see the water this flat.

I hope it stays fine for the Upcoming Coniston speed week.

Really enjoying this bike. It’s really easy to ride on this slow twisty lanes.

The Coniston steam gondola. You can pay to have a cruise on it.

    One day….

At the top end of the lake looking south.

Heading north now towards Great Briery Coppice

At the start of the Hardknott pass. It’s no joke, it’s not an easy road in places.

Heading through little Langdale towards the real start of the Wyrnose and Hardknott passes.

    We’re heading up that way.

    Still heading ever higher .

    Do not adjust your set

    Up there…

    Looking back down

I’m over the first peak and now heading down to the Langdale valley

Stopped here for a few minutes for a drink. So peaceful

Heading towards the Hardknott pass now.

Cattle grids on the main rd.

Looking down the Hardknott towards the West coast of Cumbria at Ravenglass

Hardknott Roman fort on the right.

Down the base of Hardknott. Close to the Ravenglass narrow gauge railway.

Now heading north again to Wastwater.

    Nice pub

    Which is opposite another one

Here we go. Wastwater with the ‘screes’ on the far bank.

Looking north. Yewbarrow on the left. Great Gable in the middle.

Popular spot this, my first traffic I’ve seen for a while.

Got to watch out for the locals

Heading for home now. But first a trip past Milkingstead Wood

    Getting a bit wet again

An old series 2 and a Bedford Fire Engine in a Farmyard.

Back into civilisation and a couple of hours of Motorway to go. A good day out and mostly dry.

Very nice rolling advertising. Beautiful countryside.
Seems by my calculations youse boys are paying about 5 US dollars/gallon.
Don't know what the French are paying now but they are pissing and moaning in the streets about it.
Seems the English stay calm and carry on.

Thanks for posting the photos of your day trip, Syntec4. Both the pictures and your ride turned out great. The Lake District looks like a wonderful area to ride a motorcycle and see the sights. Plus, you managed to keep your bike nice and clean during your trip, too.

As a former lady UK Prime Minister used to say: "Shut up and pay your taxes." Apparently the French haven't gotten the message yet.

Gorgeous pictures. Thanks for taking the time to post them. What camera are you using?

I lived in the UK while stationed with the USAF at RAF Mildenhall. I love the countryside there. You brought back many nice memories....and made me want to go back.

Thanks for sharing your pictures, really beautiful. Lake district and surrounding areas must be really wonderful, which is the best season to visit them? Midges? Horseflies? Mosquitos?

Aren't I lucky to live on the West coast of Cumbria! Hardknott pass isn't for the inexperienced rider, and is best tackled when there is little or no traffic We motorcyclists can be caught out if we have to stop on a hairpin bend when you find (well I did) your leg is 6" too short so the only thing you can do is to lay your bike down and with all the dignity you can muster role into the ditch.

+1, with deep scars on my pride .
In the city where I live there are many of roads like Hardknott pass, that time I happened to meet an "inexperienced driver" in the wrong hand side of the road... Unfortunately I couldn't muster much of my dignity, I collected only curses and imprecations

Stunning scenery & thanks for taking the time and effort to share them. Not been a massive fan of the adventure style of bike but you've got me thinking! Did you clean it before each shot?
