Regina's maintenance-free "forever" chain tested

Revzilla has published an article where they inspected a BMW Regina "maintenance-free" "forever" chain that was introduced last year on the S1000RR and then sold by Regina over the counter for $360. Apparently the chain didn't live up to its original claims when used on a Yamaha 700 without lubricating or adjusting it. I'd not question it just yet, looking at his bike with all the luggage on it that will work the suspension & chain harder. I'd argue that running to MFR spec (which i always found tight) he would have been too tight to start with. Which means that would have happened to any chain.

Very interesting, ADV is hard on chains, mud water and grit never cleaned,,,,,,,,,,, weights a factor but designed to use on an S1000RR, with 3 times the power,,. Will be interested in other reviews but this will certainly kill it for many,,!!

Torque is harder on drive systems than power. I know the RR makes more torque too, but it doesn't rely on low rpm torque to move the bike like the T7. It's also worth mentioning that the product details have been updated to include regular maintenance. It's no longer considered maintenance free, rather longer life with normal care. I'd be interested in a retest where the chain was cared for and compare that to a 'normal' chain with the same level of service.
Another thing mentioned in the article, the parts that received the DLC treatment looked better than expected. The pins are not treated and that was where the majority of the wear happened.
