Should I PM or not?

I'm new to this forum so pardon my ignorance.

I've recently expressed interest in item's for sale by another member and replied to him on the classified section, should I send the seller a PM or not?

Yes why wouldn’t you?
Your offer should be kept private
Yours/sellers address should be kept private
Bank details should be private
Even if you’re not at the stage of agreeing to buy yet, no need to share your negotiations with the rest of us.

Someone will confirm/correct me, I think a PM generates an email to the recipient whereas a reply post, you are waiting until seller revisits forum.

What I often see is a reply in the thread saying something like, "I'm sending you a PM." And then the prospective buyer follows up with that PM to discuss the rest of the details.

By taking both approaches, you pretty much cover all the bases. The forum defaults are to receive emails when your thread has a reply or you get a PM. It doesn't mean that someone can't turn those off, but I think it is rare.

Just a hunch, but you responded to an ad from May of 2020 posted by someone that hasn't been online since June of 2020. That info is in the box to the left of every post. PM that person if you want but i think that ship has sailed.
