Watching The Who, Live at the Isle of Wight. Circa 1970 or so, Keith Moon is without a doubt one of the best drummers ever, and a frigging madman! I love this band.

I find Keith amazing. The Who has to be one of the all time bands for stage presence. Just great performers.

Well for those not already in the know, this past weekend saw the annual Eurovision Song Contest which this year was hosted by Azerbaijan (last years winners) in the city of Baku. The winning song, 'Euphoria' was presented by Loreen representing Sweden. The composer of this song also wrote Norway's entry which unbelievably came last so that must be a first.

    Here's Loreen and Euphoria - http://youtu.be/Pfo-8z86x80?hd=1

tipped to win, but in the event only coming second, were a gaggle of Russian grannies http://youtu.be/WKNRGc71hjc?hd=1 . Stick with it, after 40 seconds it actually gets better.

    much better than andrea bocelli!
... but can he sing without amplification? bocelli isn't able to do it well enough to be a real opera singer (this is why I don't like bocelli), I hope I can hear this wonderful voice soaring in the air without a microphone around.

Just how common are male sopranos? I remember reading of a famous male singer that was treated like a Rock Star around the turn of the 19th century. Performing for all the heads of Europe. Seemed to be well liked by the ladies of the day. I am fascinated by the reactions of the females in the audience by a male that sounds very much like a female.

the soprano voice was up to male singers... the famous "castrati" (no translation is needed), because women didn't sing in the opera theaters till the second half of the 18th century. indeed not all castrati were castrated, I mean not all the male soprano singers were castrated.
also in rock music you can listen male singers using that range quite easily.
a clear example of the ambiguity of the soprano voice is given by mozart in the score of "le nozze di figaro": cherubino, the first erotic stage of mozart's music, as kierkgaard wrote on his essay about mozart's music, and about the "don giovanni" in particular, all these erotic stages are shown by male characters (cherubino, papageno and don giovanni), sings in soprano clef.

"putenza du gibbiuni!" dissi u sceccu quannu vitti u mari... ("what a big pool!" said the donkey when has seen the sea...)

don't you think that the reaction of the women in the audience is very close to the reaction that mozart wanted for this scene by susanna and contessa listening cherubino?
    this is called "erotism"!
and it's simply... a sound with its meaning.

Funny you are talking of high male voice, I've just been revisiting Pavlov's Dog. David Surkamp is up there.
Also West Australian band The Waif's, and Seasick Steve, all good stuff.

No, but I like this music. I speak some German and find that helps me to understand a little Dutch.

Paskal Jakobsen has a kick-ass voice.

Very nice Guido. Normally the la la la business comes at the end of the song when the composer has run out of ideas for more lyrics. With Kylie they start at the beginning of the song ......blah blah blah......oops, sorry......la la la

the reason of that strange way to do is very simple: there's not any other lyric idea in that song... with a different development it could be called minimalism (but this one is too elaborated).
as I said everyone has his own weakness, in other words everyone has a little place in the meander of the mind where the reason there will never be.
