From the Milan EICMA a few days ago... via BikeEXIF: BMW has noticed the increasing popularity of customs based on its airhead R-series. In probably the most exciting news of the whole show, the Bavarians revealed that next year they’ll launch an air-cooled machine harking back to the roadsters of yore. Here’s a design sketch.

& Here's a spy pic just to prove it's more than just an artist's idea... this is the last pic I could find on the interwebs after BMW issued polite but firm 'takedown' requests for all others...

Going back to the classic lines of the /6, /7 with Rennsport pretensions? Double white pin stripes?

Have you ridden the 1200R? It's really nice but not so nice as to spend more money I don't have.

Friend of mine has a '77 R100 in the garage with that style of fairing, seat and period cafe racer bits. Still a project but has promise.

I had the 356 cams in my 100GS and it wasn't that lumpy. Poor state of tune there. Nice bobber but more rat than classic cafe racer.

I am kind of the opinion that the Concept 90's front fairing looks a little strange.

If BMW is not going to put something like the Concept into production then what is the point of producing it? I seem to recall that many BMW enthusiasts have been asking for a modern R90S or R100RS for the past 20 years (ever since the oil-head motor was introduced) and BMW just ignored us and said that they knew what we really wanted better than their customers. So the begging finally died down and now they introduce a modern version of the R90S. So my question is what now? Will they build it or keep it in their museum to be displayed occasionally at classic motorcycle design shows during the next hundred years?

I do hope it will be a production bike. BMW has launched concept bikes before to find out if there would be a market for it. MCN says: "At the moment this bike is being presented as a pure concept bike but we know BMW has trademarked the “nineT” name which is thought to be protecting the name for a forthcoming production bike." so yes the option is there.

I really like the looks and have been creative with one of the official pics

And yes my editing skills are quite poor
