I am a bilingual warranty adjuster

So that would be English/French, English/Spammish, English/Chinese? Interesting.

I assume you were asking me NOTACOP? French is my mother-tongue and English is the other obvious language I speak.

english/french is the first thought wondering which languages could speak a bilingual canadian worker. sorry for my ignorance: when I was child, at school I learned that in canada people speak english and french, but nobody told me that someone speaks english and someone french, I always thought canadians speak both languages... now I'm not really sure of that.

When I went to school in British Columbia french wasn't even offered until grade 10 and then it was optional. Very few students where I was took it. My brother signed up for it in grade 10 but the course was cancelled as only three other students elected to take it. Not sure about other provinces in Canada but I know there are quite a few french immersion schools in Ontario.

California is a multi cultural, multi language empire and I only speak poor Engrish. A smattering of spammish swear words. Pathetic.....

I'm learning just now that canadians study french at school, I thought it was a mother-language. in california many people speak spanish, but the "official" language is english. I studied english at school, but when I went to live in london I realized I didn't learn english at school, so I had to start again to study. I can understand also spanish and french, but not well, I mean, I can read these languages and I can understand something if are spoken slowly, anyway, I'm not able to speak spanish and french, because I can't "think" in these languages as I can do speaking italian or english. I don't speak very well also the sicilian dialect (not better than english), it's very different from italian, another language, not easy.

Frank, when looking for an F800S last August or so, I came across one in NM and cross referenced it to you from this website - then spend a few hours calling clinics trying to find you to inquire about this dealership item. Somehow, we finally connected for a few minutes on the telephone. From that conversation, I'd like to wish you God Speed and note in Forest Gump fashion. . ..

philip, sorry but I have to correct you: in italian we use many words to say " the right" so the best translation is "il giusto" (i.e. "the right way" can be translated as "il giusto modo", but also as "la strada a destra", the street on the right), others meaning are referred to the "right side" and "to correct", italian is actually a difficult language, we use many different words in several contexts for the same meaning or few words for the different meaning, depends on the context. I think the meaning of right as "giusto" is because in the ancient age people used the right hand to brandish the sword, most people are dextrorse (so this is the "right" way to use a sword). for the same reason all over the world (except for english, australian people and maybe someone else) the right side is the proper side for walking (and then driving): if you brandish a sword by your right hand you must bring the sword on the left hand side to draw it, so the movement of the arm is "flowing". I think the expression "di destra" could be translated better as "rightist", a political expression.
anyway, thanks for the italian appreciation!

does anybody remember the "esperanto"? it should be the universal cultural language, but nobody learned it and english is actually the only universal language in the world (even if spanish is more spoken).

That's just so they can talk behind your back...
Formerly on a Lahar Grey F800S, then after 47,000 happy miles it was traded in for a new Midnight Black F800ST, which was more or less converted back to an S. And now I'm on a brand new R1200RS, which is rather awesome! I'll still stick around if you'll have me, though, as my wife is now on the F800...

I remember, here there's someone who does a job for living, and all these are digressions, but sometimes to digress it's a good thing... helps to smile.

When you are retired, it's easy to digress. That's all we have to do, no work to keep us occupied. What'samatta, you don't likee language confusion? It's a good test to see if you have any real grasp of it at all. Probably never heard of Norm Crosby!

Formerly on a Lahar Grey F800S, then after 47,000 happy miles it was traded in for a new Midnight Black F800ST, which was more or less converted back to an S. And now I'm on a brand new R1200RS, which is rather awesome! I'll still stick around if you'll have me, though, as my wife is now on the F800...

in the italian sub-forum we already have a thread called "chiacchiere da bar" ("chat café"), we gave an english name to this virtual café: "pike's bar", the virtual bartender is called susy. there you can find coffee or tea, taste cakes, pastries (nice place for the "chief pie taster") and if you want spaghetti... don't worry, susy will cook for you the best plate of spaghetti you've ever eaten, we can drink any kind of beer we like, or very good wine and there isn't the problem to have the license suspended because you're drunk. also I always can drink my nescafé. it's open 24h per day. it's actually an "off topic" discussion. dunny, here the idea is yours, start a new thread, open a "café" for those who speak english, and we all will follow you in that discussion, because chat and digression (and drink and food too) are our favorite "sport".

Guido, why not open an Italian Bistro or Cafe. Italian food sounds better the British bangers and mash. English speaking tourists would be welcome of course....
